Reviving

This stage involves diagnosis, and repair in order to get the machine functioning properly.

The first thing necessary was to get proper power to the cabinet. I replaced the old corroded, spliced power cable with the proper Midway Type 1 ended power cable.  This way, it plugs right in to the connector inside the cabinet, just like when it came from the factory.

Once the Pac-Man had power, I replaced the marquee light bulbs with wattage equivalent LED bulbs for reduced heat up in the top of the cabinet, which may damage the marquee graphics. Also, while working up in the marquee area of the cabinet, I noticed that the speaker was pretty much trashed, so I ordered a new one of the appropriate 6"x9" 8 Ohm, as designated in the Pac-Man operator's manual.

With good power to the cabinet, the monitor fired up, but there was nothing showing on the screen but "garbage." This prompted me to buy a Midway Pac-Man switching power supply kit. Installing a modern, inexpensive electronic power supply can eliminate a great deal of frustration associated with 40 year old power supply components.

Upon installation of the switching power supply kit, the Pac is still showing nothing but garbage on the screen. Now the fun begins, as far as diagnosis goes. In the mean time, I ordered a replacement tempered glass bezel with the silkscreened graphics to replace the peeling & flaking bezel graphics.

 The adventure shall continue!
